When I was little, I did only two things: make art and carefully study old issues of National Geographic. I thought for sure I would grow up to be a sunken treasure hunter, but instead grew up with a deep wanderlust and appreciation for worlds different than my own, none of which is more interesting or exotic to me than the animal and plant kingdom. After living in Brooklyn for several years, my partner and I moved to Sydney, Australia this year to be closer to family. This is especially exciting to me as it's a chance to be in nature and go on an exotic plant and animal adventures.
I'm going to be posting stories of inspiration from travels and nature experiences that correlated directly to artwork. The photo above on the left is from an art residency I did in in Hämeenkyrö, Finland at the Arteles Creative Center and the owl is a drawing made up of different wildflowers from the countryside there (more about this project in a later blog post). When I make art, my goal is to capture and share the experiences I’ve had on my travels. I want my art to make other people happy and trigger their own experiences with nature, travel and animals.
